Whales by OJ


Thank you OJ for the Orca pics! They have arrived. At first I thought they would be Minke, but from what I hear they were Orcas. This is unique for this time of year since there is still lots of ice near our island in the Ross Sea, and they must have traveled down the giant route created by the icebreaker. Some say these Orcas don't feed off penguins like the ones north of us, but they will go for seals. Minkes are more common for these parts because they maneuver well through ice. Tomorrow the tanker arrives, so I'll be heading down there this evening to see if they are around still.
