Christchurch on Saturday nights is a party. Best part about tonight was chatting with an Australian on the balcony about fire. He said nearly everyone in Victoria/Melbourne knows someone who was affected by the fires that have plagued south Australia over the last few weeks. The fires were part natural, part manmade. Running out of water means more fire for Australia. He told me that one lady he knew was running along the road while the fire spread behind her. She had to run to escape. Several were burnt and the fire spread at 60 mph at times he said. Imagine that, a 60 mph wall of fire roaring through the dry bush. To save the Wallabies we best save the watersheds first eh?
